Free Radon Test Kits

Through Healthy Hometowns, free radon test kits are available to eligible homeowners living in rural areas of Johnson County.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can build up inside homes. You cannot see, smell, or taste radon, so testing is the only way to know the radon level in your home.

Why Test Your Home for Radon?

Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels can increase the risk of lung cancer. Testing your home is simple and can help you understand your radon level and determine whether additional action may be needed.

Test your home. Know your radon level. Take action if needed.

Are You Eligible for a Free Kit?

To qualify for a free Healthy Hometowns radon test kit, you must:

  • Live in Johnson County.
  • Own the home where the radon test kit will be used.
  • Live in an eligible rural area.

Check Your Address

Use the HRSA Rural Health Areas map to see whether your home is located in an eligible rural area.

Enter your home address into the map. If your address is located within a green-shaded area, you are eligible for a free radon test kit through Healthy Hometowns.
