About Seasonal Flu

Johnson County Public Health encourages all residents to get their annual flu vaccination. The flu is caused by viruses which infect the respiratory tract and is usually spread through the air by tiny droplets made when people with the flu cough or sneeze. These droplets can move 3 to 6 feet through the air.

Johnson County Public Health will be offering the quadrivalent flu vaccine for adult and children aged 6 months and older. The vaccine is free of charge for those on Medicaid and offered on an income-based sliding scale, up to $40, for all others. Cash or credit accepted. Call 319-356-6042 to schedule an appointment during regular Wednesday Immunization Clinics, or walk in any Thursday afternoon from 1-6 pm, beginning in October.

In addition to receiving the flu vaccine, it is important to practice the 3 C's:

Clean - Wash your hands frequently. Use soap and water or hand sanitizer

Cover - Cover your cough by using a tissue or your elbow

Contain - Contain germs by staying home when you're sick
